Landscape Design – Waterfall Pond West Chester, PA
Backyard Waterfall Pond
Pro Image Landscaping were hired to do a large scale raised waterfall pond for the backyard landscaping, in West Chester, PA. This was quite a large project for the client's new home construction. However, they wanted to do something to remind them of the natural mountain views they had in their previous home. Our designers were only asked to incorporate a few requests into the landscaping project, but we had free reign of concepts and ideas.
Flagstone Walls Surrounding the Waterfall
We came up with a multi-tiered waterfall surrounded by dry-stack flagstone walls with a mounded landscape bed. The mounding of this landscape project was essential because of the view from the deck above.
Building a Retaining Wall using Flagstone & Boulders
Instead of retaining wall block, the client wanted an all-natural look, so we used various sizes of West Mountain dry stack flagstone. The outer retaining wall is larger in the front and tapers to ground level on the rear and sides due to a sloping backyard. Medium sized boulders were used for a natural look. It also provides a place to stand or sit near the pond for enjoyment.
Underwater Lighting & Perennials for the Pond
We used underwater lighting to accent the pond water for an ambient night glow. Perennials are mostly used around ponds because of their low maintenance and non-invasive root system. Ornamental trees were also used in the landscape design to add visual interest without creating a burden of high maintenance.
Landscaping Done Right by Pro Image
And the final result was a truly beautiful custom built project including a waterfall, pond, landscaping and masonry flagstone walls. The client's favorite feature was a $200 underwater lighting system. Without the addition of the lighting it was simply a nicely designed landscape space, but at night the pond water lit up to a blue colored effect. We just added a different color lens to the lighting fixtures to create the deep blue ambient lighting.
Sadly, a year after this project was completed, the owners had to move. Wanna know the good news? The project we completed for them brought up the property value enough to make up for the housing maket price drops. Landscaping done right is always a great investment for your home.
