Brick Walkway

Brick walkways can create an old fashioned sense of style when used by themselves. When we use a mix of old style brick combined with flagstone or concrete pavers, the result becomes contemporary with a touch of classic masonry brick. This classic look can be seen in the city of Wilmington Delaware, predominately in the Riverfront and municipality building renovations.

A brick walkway is the perfect complement to a colonial or farm style home. Brick walkways have a traditional appearance that gives off a sense of age and refinement. Depending on the walkway width, shape and brick pattern you select your walkway can be formal or casual. If your home already has brick for the exterior architecture and you are trying to match the coloring, it can be very difficult since the natural coloring varies throughout the manufacturing processes. Try pulling one of the existing colors off the brick architecture and use that as one of the attribute colors for the brick you will choose for your brick walkway.

We service Wilmington, Newark and Hockessin Delaware as well as Garnet Valley, West Chester, Chadds Ford and Kennett Square Pennsylvania and neighboring cities in DE, PA.

Brick Installation

Brick walkways can be constructed using two different methods of construction. The first method of brick walkway construction is done by using a concrete reinforced base with the brick bonded to the top using bonding cement. Make sure a flexible concrete is used for the base. In Delaware we have freeze-thaw cycles that will crack the cement if not constructed properly. The second method of construction for brick walkways is done using a crushed stone base, concrete sand and polymeric joint sand. This method eliminates the cracking altogether and gives you a base that will flex during the freeze thaw cycles.

  • Some brick walkways patterns possibilities are:
  • Running bond
  • Basket weave
  • 90 and 45 Degree Herringbone

So overall, brick walkways are a great consideration for your homes walkway. Whether your walkway is for the main entrance to your front door or a meandering path to a backyard patio, if you are in need of help for your brick walkway project we are just a phone call away.
