Mulch is a protective cover placed over the soil to retain moisture, reduce erosion, provide nutrients, and suppress weed growth and seed germination. Mulching in gardens and landscaping mimics the leaf cover that is found on forest floors.

Organic Mulch

Organic mulches decay over time and are temporary. The way particular organic mulch decomposes and reacts to wetting by rain and dew affects its usefulness. Organic mulches can negatively affect plant growth when they are decomposed rapidly by bacteria and fungi, which require nitrogen that they remove from the surrounding soil. Organic mulches can mat down, forming a barrier that blocks water and air flow between the soil and the atmosphere. Some organic mulch can wick water from the soil to the surface, which can dry out the soil.

Rubber Mulch

Recycled rubber mulch is becoming a popular choice in residential landscapes even though it has been used mostly in municipalities and playgrounds for its long term color retention. Rubber mulch is environmentally-friendly, eliminate expensive repeat applications for at least 10 years, its non-abrasive, clean, and non-toxic.

Pro Image only uses the best mulch available. This is one of our best trade secrets and signature of our company's professional landscape results. Mulch is the final WOW factor that makes the landscape stand out from your neighbors. We offer natural brown or black dyed mulch that resists fading. Our mulches last for months not days. Beds are distinctly shaped and all weeds cleaned out prior to installation of your mulch. We apply Roundup to any existing weeds in the bed areas to stop them from taking over the mindscape beds. Pro Image also uses a weed preventative similar to Preen for effective prevention of weeds so you can enjoy your weekends doing something other than pulling weeds.

Our mulch installation includes the following practices:

  • Redefine edges of garden beds by digging down 2-3" so mulch remains in beds after installation.
  • Apply mulch 2-4 inches deep. (Please note: Applying mulch in excess of 4" can be detrimental to your plantings as air and water will have difficulty reaching them.)
  • Do not apply mulch directly to the base of any trees, shrubs, etc. as this will promote rotting of your plant material.
  • Once it is installed, smooth the mulch with a plastic leaf rake in order to create a beautiful evenly mulched garden bed.
  • Clean mulch from grassy areas, plant material, and hardscapes.

We service Wilmington, Newark and Hockessin Delaware as well as Garnet Valley, West Chester, Chadds Ford and Kennett Square Pennsylvania and neighboring cities in DE, PA.
